The Crimson Form: Self-Portrait Series
Currently showing @ BlueBirdSky Art Gallery & Yoga Studio
The Crimson Form embodies a symbolic representation of internal evolution. It's akin to a fledgling creation, gestating quietly within and embodying characteristics associated with the color red. The form signifies the birth of a renewed sense of purpose and a burgeoning reservoir of inner strength. I used the self-timer on my camera and tripod to capture each movement organically. Post-prod I played with the composition of each image.
Red emerges as a monochromatic call to invite more passion into life. It demands audacity and a path abundant with creative experimentation. Each frame encapsulates this journey towards a vibrant life where each hue of experience bares intensity, intentionality, and purpose.
The journey began with color. Nature’s canvas revealed itself to me and I was inspired to move. I often seek refuge in natural landscapes when life complicates itself and I need answers to its pressing questions. This time around I felt the seasons and I were transitioning in parallels. As a mirror to my own shifts, I became highly attuned to the color Red.
I reconciled with these ideas through an experimental movement practice that harmonized my experience across athletic, spiritual, and creative disciplines: Rhythmic Gymnastics, Contemporary Dance, Aerialist Arts & Yoga. Intentionally fusing these disciplines birthed a crimson form, fetal and nascent against the backdrop of nature.
As life unfolds, a Crimson Form gradually emerges, symbolizing internal evolution akin to an embryo's formation—an intricate dance between inner transformation and external displays of strength.
